There are a lot of romance books that I love but not all of them have a special place in my heart. Here is a list of my top 10 romance books (excluding the ones set in another world – that’s going to be another blog post) in no particular order.
1. Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare
This was my first historical romance that led to a whole summer of binge-reading historical romances. It is heart-warming and as magical as it is sexy. Dare is one of my favourite authors and I get excited every time she releases a new book.
2. Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas
The hype is not a lie. Derek Craven had my heart the second he opened his himbo mouth. A rags-to-riches male character who houses sex workers and protects them whilst letting them keep all their earnings? You can’t go wrong.
3. A Week to be Wicked/Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare
This is two books (but it’s the same series and the main characters are friends so it’s okay). Dare’s books are a work of art. The dialogue, the plot pace, the sense of humour, the sex scenes, the heroines, the heroes = perfection.
4. Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams
This is the newest book on this little blog shelf. I don’t think the 'bad boy, good girl' trope has ever been done so well. Adams had me switching between giggling and crying within a matter of a few pages. Will is a green flag and I'm here for it.
5. Lead by Kylie Scott
This book was my comfort read for a long time and I’m still not exactly sure why. Was it that love heals all? Was it the sassy yet vulnerable Lena? Was it Jimmy reaching his full potential? I don’t know, but it makes me happy so it’s on this list.
6. Sheltered by Charlotte Stein
One of the most romantic stories I’ve ever read. What I love most about this novella is that there is no drama between the couple. The characters have a lot of chaos in their lives but, when they’re together, it’s so peaceful.
7. Dirty Angels by Karina Halle
This book won me with how both Luisa and Javier are so messed up. They didn’t have safe upbringings, and they meet and fall in love under dangerous circumstances, but it works and neither one wants to change the other.
8. The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
“He was ignoring everyone, including her, at this expensive wedding. So he could read a novel about alien demon things.” That did it for me.
9. The Unrequited by Saffron A. Kent
Kent’s heroines are insane (I say this respectfully) and I love them for it. This book encapsulates the strange yet addictive story lines of Kent’s romance plots.
10. Master of Salt & Bones by Keri Lake
Lake recently became one of my favourite authors. I’ve never read a gothic romance before this one and, after discovering this gem, I struggle wanting to read anything else. Her characters are so flawed and vivid that I can’t get them out of my mind.
